How we review trading tools
Education only, not financial advice. Trading involves a significant risk of loss and is not suitable for everyone. Some links on this site are affiliate links: how we make money.
We earn commissions from some of the tools we write about, so you should know how our reviews are made and where they stop. This page explains both.
What we check
We use each tool before we write about it. Each review then covers the same ground:
- What it does: the main features, in plain words.
- Pricing: the plans and what they cost, based on the maker's own website at the time we checked. Data fees and other costs can come on top.
- Compatibility: the markets, platforms, brokers and data feeds it works with, as far as we can confirm them.
- Pros and cons: what we think works well and what does not. Partner tools get a list of downsides too.
Prices and features change, and we can fall behind. Always check the maker's website before you pay. If you spot a mistake, tell us.
How scores work
A score out of 10 is our own judgement, not a measurement. Two reviewers could reasonably land on different numbers.
We only give a score once we are ready to stand behind it. Until then, the page says "Not scored yet" instead of showing a number we cannot back up.
What we will not do
- Promise gains, or suggest that a tool will make you profitable.
- Show profit and loss screenshots as proof that a tool works.
- Invent reviews, feedback, scores or discounts.
- List made-up partners to make the site look bigger.
How commissions fit in
Some tools pay us when you buy through our link or use our creator code. Those tools carry a "Paid partnership" label, and how we make money explains the model in full.
A commission does not change what we write about a tool, and it does not buy a better score. You should still read our reviews knowing that we have a financial interest in some of them.
Feedback from readers
Readers with an account can leave written feedback on a tool, once per tool. It has no star rating, and it does not affect our score. We check each message before it appears, and only for its form. We refuse spam, insults, personal data and promises of gains.
We do not remove feedback for being negative.
What a review cannot tell you
A review describes a tool, not your future results. The same tool can suit one trader and be useless to another. Trading involves a significant risk of loss, and nothing here is financial advice. Read our risk disclaimer for more.
